Soft deposits will be removed from accessible areas of the teeth, bacterial deposits and tartar will be removed from the root surfaces and gingival pockets.Further cleaning may be required and carried out in several visits.

In some cases antibiotics are prescribed to deal with active or persistent gum infections, which have not responded to oral hygiene measures.
